After reading the articles and watching videos on the theme of "revolution" in computer graphics from Euclideon with their Unlimited Detail engine, I decided to see what's new in this direction. And came across one interesting
Atomontage engine.

The guys have been working on it since 2004 and have ten years of experience in game development, including AAA level projects. By the way, the leading developer from Slovakia, lives in Bratislava. For 7 years of work, at first glance, not very much has been done, but I know from my own experience that when you do something new, you dig one in new directions, then it takes time.

At the moment, the Atomontage engine cannot boast beautiful scenes and complex animations (by the way, they need an artist who will create scenes). Nevertheless, there are more interesting things in commercials than in Euclideon commercials.
Atomontage hybrid engine - you can combine polygons and voxels in one scene. The engine implemented an elegant compression scheme that allows you to put a huge, multi-gigavoxelnyu scene in a few hundred megabytes. Unlike Euclideon, Atomontage does not disdain the power of the GPU. But the most interesting thing is the ability of the engine to distribute the calculations across multiple computers. As for me, this is a killer feature. Especially in our time, when people at least have a laptop / netbook and desktop. And when you can buy for $ 25 a computer the size of a credit card on a 700Mhz processor.

Plans include the implementation of the following features:
- Fire, heat, phase transition (gas, liquid, solid, plasma) - thermodynamics simulation
- Destruction - for example, explosions of small atomic bombs
- Water - simulation at the atomic level (apparently rough approximation)
- Electricity - the simplest simulation
- Chemistry
- Weather - up to the storm and other extreme conditions
