
After the appearance of the App Store for Mac OS, I registered there, pampered with it a bit and forgot. Neither you are comfortable sorting, nor search, even with languages ​​some kind of problem. I was reminded of this annoyance by rewriting the comments in the article on
Yandex.Hotels , which discussed the interface language of Google services. I tried to prove that the automatic switching of the site language should be based on the user's location, and not on his browser settings. But this is not the biggest insanity that occurs when choosing an interface language.
To use the App Store, you need to get an Apple ID and link your account to the payment system, I chose
clickandbuy.com for payments (there were no paypal options, and I didn’t want to leave the credit
card number, I have to change them every six months). As with all payment systems, it was necessary to specify my home address and bank, both of which are located in Holland. I naturally pointed out and everything got. Now, every time I log in to the App Store, I get the inscription “Deze Apple ID worden gebruikt worsen” (meaning “this Apple ID can only be used with the Dutch App Store”) and the program interface switches to Dutch. For me, stupidly chose an interface language, they say, you're in Holland, which means speak Dutch.

Attempts to switch the language of the interface do not lead to anything: in Apple ID, you can choose the Preferred Language, but it seems to cover only the language of correspondence. Attempting to change the language in the App Store program itself (there is such an encouraging checkbox at the bottom) leads not only to switching the interface language, but also to redirection to the site of the specified country. At the same time, without any warning, the exit from my “Dutch” Apple ID account occurs. In general, hell and death.
What is most interesting, on the site of Apple itself there is an opportunity to choose a language:

The truth is made with the same linguistic chauvinis, one country - one language. An exception is made only for the sake of countries where more than one official language. It is clear that for the majority of users, the choice of country and the choice of language is not needed. Basically it is necessary for those who live abroad and / or travel a lot. Most companies do not think about it at all, because they are focused on one country. But for large international corporations, multi-language support, even for localized versions of the site, is highly desirable. It is obvious that an additional language may cost additional money for translation, for example, if the conditions of service in different countries are slightly different and they will have to be translated. But the main functionality of the site (menu, tips, help) can be used from existing ones.
