For me it is very strange that the news about the creation of the NEC research center was not lit up in Habré. All the more strange that I often see news from high-tech sites like IXBT or similar here. And the news is not weak. In essence, this is about creating methods of cognitive analysis - popularly known as AI, intergation of computations and communications - which so far have gone as separate directions. And the center itself will look like a plot from a fantastic film.
Honestly, it all resembles the well-known
Xerox PARC , which repeatedly justified the money spent on it and formed IT the way we see it now.
But the news itself:
In the Japanese city of Nara a new research division of NEC on computers and communications has opened - Computers and Communications Innovation Research Laboratories. As stated in the official press release, the scientists and engineers working here will have to focus their attention on developing future information exchange systems, which should be characterized by complete convergence of computing resources and communication facilities. It is argued that, following a policy of openness, the laboratories will collaborate with leading researchers working in research institutions and companies from different countries.
Two priority areas of work have been named (they sound quite incredible, but we must remember that this is a concept of research):
')
Cognitive computing and application systems to create completely new solutions;
Communication and application systems that overcome the limitations of time, space, languages, distances and cultures.
To help scientists called the most modern technical means. For example, interaction with remote partners will be provided by the so-called “High Definition Remote Research Window” - a two-way video communication system in real time, made using cameras and high-definition monitors. By the way, the research environment will be open, but at the same time it is well protected - for example, it was decided to deal with information leaks using thin clients (made by NEC, of course) and centralized storage of all information on servers, as well as the comprehensive use of RFID tags, which will mark all including books and pc.
The special system, which received the long title Intellectual Activity History Recording System, will accumulate progress information in the database. It is supposed to record in the form of images and sound all the activity of laboratories, information about movements and meetings of people, the use of books, documents, bulletin boards and PCs. Analyzing these data, scientists hope to reveal the “process of generating innovations”.
