Thunderbird will be your default email program in Ubuntu 11.10

After several months of testing, Thunderbird is approved as the official email program for Ubuntu 11.10.

Thunderbird developer Mike Conley said this in his blog:

In the first alphas, Thunderbird was only tested to gain an understanding of how it will work as a default client, as well as to collect feedback. Canonical could still change it to Evolution. But they liked him, and they approved him completely.

This means that in the October release of Ubuntu, Thunderbird will be installed by default and integrated with various elements of the Ubuntu desktop.

However, Evolution fans will be able to easily install their favorite client through the Ubuntu software center. Well, for those who prefer to work with mail through the web interface, almost everything will remain the same.
