Taiwanese Research Institute has developed a rewritable thermal paper

A team of scientists from the Industrial Technology Research Institute of Taiwan has developed a special “paper” on which you can apply inscriptions and drawings with a thermal printer, with the possibility of overwriting the contents. A total of 260 rewriting cycles are allowed, after which, apparently, this “paper” becomes unusable. The project was named “i2R e-Paper”. This "paper" is a kind of relative of all sorts of e-ink displays. This is because the inscriptions are applied by means of a thermal printer, and it is erased by writing with the help of electricity.

e-Paper is very flexible, thin and light, and this “paper” consists of plastic film coated with a special type of liquid crystals, the structure of which is similar to the structure of cholesterol molecules. Applied inscriptions and drawings can be of different colors - it all depends on the temperature at which all this is applied to the surface.

The developers have created a printer for "i2R e-Paper", which allows not only to print, but also to erase the printed. The cost of a sheet of such a “paper” is about $ 2 (A4 format), but the developers claim that in the future the price will only fall. Of course, this is subject to mass production of such paper.
