Defcon presents an Android program to test the reliability of computer network protection.

The specialists of the Israeli company specializing in network security, have chosen the Android platform as the basis for the work of its program Android Network Toolkit. This software was presented at the Defcon conference, and is intended to test the reliability of computer network protection. At the same time, the program can equally serve as a master key of poorly protected networks in the hands of intruders (in general, programs of this kind have always been “two-faced”, so to speak). It is worth noting that the guys who developed this software are going to lay out the Android Network Toolkit for several days, making the program accessible to all. In general, this is good, on the one hand, since network security specialists will be able to get quite substantial functionality in the form of a mobile application. On the other hand, any attacker can “check” wireless networks wherever these networks are. That the program is able - in continuation.

So, Android Network Toolkit allows you to check the security of the local network or a remote server, and you can do it by literally clicking on a couple of buttons. Representatives of the company Zimperium, created this application, claim that they wanted to make a program that will allow anyone to check the reliability of the protection of their own network or computer. The program will be free for ordinary users, but if you want to use it in your company, you will have to pay 10 dollars, having received additional functionality.

The Android Network Toolkit allows you to scan wi-fi networks to detect open networks, as well as to demonstrate the potential vulnerability of such networks. In addition, the software allows you to find the IP of all devices in the network, including the server. The resulting IP can be used to verify the protection of the server. During the check, the application will launch a series of exploits, which will be used to check the protection.

Three exploits were demonstrated at the conference. The first one used the same bug as the Conficker worm in 2009. The second exploit checks default SSH passwords on jailbroken iPhones. The third exploit tried to detect devices with an outdated version of Android on the network. The Zimperium team also created a Windows Trojan that allows you to control an infected PC directly from a mobile device using the same Android Network Toolkit application.

In general, even in its current form, this application poses a certain danger to users. After all, if you download the Android Network Toolkit to your phone, you can go to a cafe, restaurant, library or airport, where there are available and open wireless networks, and start “checking”. The creators of the application ask users to be very careful with the Android Network Toolkit and use it wisely. In general, it is unlikely that this request will guarantee that no one will use the Android Network Toolkit for any kind of, not very good, purpose.

Well, let's wait until the application appears in the Android market, and see what the consequences all this entails.
