The Japanese have created a self-learning robot

In general, self-learning robots were created earlier, but the authors of this project claim that their “iron friend of man” possesses advanced artificial intelligence, and can “think” almost like a human being. Worked on the project specialists from the Tokyo Institute of Technology, Hasegawa Group. The creators of the robot used technology SOINN (Self-Organizing Incremental Neural Network), which, according to the development team, allows the robot to learn, and quite successfully.

In one of the experiments, the machine had to solve a specific problem, independently deciding what actions need to be performed to solve the problem, and in what order. And the task was quite difficult, as for a robot: to fill a glass with water, cool water, serve this “cocktail” to a person. The robot had to do all this by making decisions based on the current situation and the available tools.

The first stage, filling the glass with liquid, the robot performed fairly quickly. Then he needed to cool the liquid, throwing a piece of ice into the glass. To do this, he had to "understand" that both his manipulators are occupied, and he can take the ice only if he puts an empty bottle. And this stage of the robot was successful.

By the way, that very technology SOINN allows the robot to receive information not only about its environment, but also from the Web. Thus, experts say, the device learns faster and becomes “smarter”. In addition, the robot can “ask for advice” from its colleagues - this scheme does not work yet, because there are no analogues of the robot yet, but earlier this idea was received positively. Uses the robot and its own experience to solve current problems.
