I have never understood why video calling is needed. Any information can in fact be transmitted in text or binary form. Emotions and intonations are perfectly transmitted by voice. Again, a video link does not replace a personal meeting - give the interlocutor neither in the face, nor shake hands. In my entire life, I used video calling 2 times: I tested it once and once arranged a conversation between my father and his fellow soldier. Everything. Well, there were still many sessions of sharing the desktop - but this is a separate feature, not about it.
In a video call, I was strained by a whole bunch of things: less room for maneuver (you can’t say “I’m already approaching” if you can see that you are still in bed), the need to look good in front of your interlocutor, the demands of a decent environment, etc. In general, I did not believe that video calling could be convenient, useful and enjoyable.
But everything changes. By the will of fate, it brought me to one institution (state-owned by the way), where Skype video communication was implemented everywhere, is available to both employees and visitors, and, believe it or not, it
really did bring benefits ! I was filled with a feeling of deep respect for people capable of overcoming all barriers of absurdities and bureaucracy in a state institution, having done a good thing without any direct benefit to myself. I strongly advise all similar institutions to learn from this experience.
Where have I been? The answer is under the cut.

Personally, this service was not useful to me, but then there really are freshly baked dads (and other relatives), abandoned by life at the time of the birth of a child very far. And this is the case when video calling is invaluable.
