Microsoft has announced that it has signed an agreement with computer games maker Electonic Arts, according to which the software giant will
advertise in the EA 2008 sports game series: Madden 2008, NASCAR 2008, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2008, NHL Hockey 2008 and Skate.
Microsoft will act as an advertising broker and place advertiser content in games. It is noteworthy that the advertising will be dynamic, that is, the technology allows you to change advertising banners in real time via the Internet. The implementation of this plan will be handled by the company Massive, which last year the Redmond company acquired for $ 200 million.
Massive technology keeps track of the number of seconds when banner ads are visible to players, after which there is a time-based calculation for displaying ads. That is, at the rate of $ 10/10 seconds, Microsoft will receive $ 60 for a minute of viewing advertising by Microsoft players, $ 30 for half a minute ... These figures are taken for simplicity of example - in fact, Microsoft’s prices are not yet known - however, if you watch 10 seconds for some cents Microsoft and EA will be a lot of money, as the number of players is in the millions.
It should be noted that the advertising market in computer and console games is considered promising. So, in 2006, analysts from the Yankee Group estimated it at $ 26.1 million, this year they expect growth to $ 100 million, and by 2010 - to $ 645 million.
