Review of the salaries of "mobile" developers

Our company is engaged in the selection of IT-staff in many large cities of Russia and Europe. Twice a year we conduct research on the salaries of employees of IT companies in order to be aware of the slightest market changes.

In this post , a small part of the research was touched upon. In the comments, the people demanded more specific data and bread for many positions, and I promised that we would try to regularly publish data on wages in various specialties in the field of IT.

No sooner said than done! The first post is devoted to a detailed analysis of the salaries of experts in the field of mobile development. We will be guided by the data obtained during the study in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Nizhny Novgorod.

Labor market situation


After analyzing vacancies and resumes on various job portals (hh.ru, superjob.ru, itmozg.ru) in Russia on July 27, it can be concluded that demand exceeds supply:

The overall situation is logical: the demand for developers for iPhone and Android significantly exceeds the demand for their colleagues writing for BlackBerry and WP7 . The former are not at all common in Russia, and the latter have not yet reached us.

Programmers WinMob and Symbian also participated in the analysis, but naturally both baranki (or values ​​close to them) stand in both columns, since the time of these operating systems has already passed.

Intern

Oddly enough, 30% of companies are interested in interns - developers without work experience. In the job hierarchy, they, of course, are paid less than all, but the size of salaries, even by the standards of St. Petersburg, is very solid:

Junior Developer

Compared to the intern, the junior developer already knows something, but requires a detailed statement of the problem. The salary is higher than that of the younger colleague on average by 30%.

Above each junior developer is usually a leading programmer who controls and develops his ward.

Between the junior and the lead developer is usually the so-called "middle developer". This is a programmer with experience of more than 1.5 years. It does not require a detailed formulation of the problem, is able to independently find solutions and, accordingly, is not so attached to the lead developer.

Since the position “Application Developer for Mobile Devices” is quite young, we do not divide it into the leading and “middle” developers, but simply combine these two posts.

Developer / Lead Developer

In the transition to the leading developer / lead developer position salaries soar more than twice. It is understandable, the best developers cherish and appreciate in their companies.

Many enterprise application developers are afraid to switch to development for mobile platforms, thinking that they will get much less there. In this table, we prove the opposite on the basis of the latest data on C ++ and Java programmers in St. Petersburg. To make the comparison correct, we again combine senior and middle developers.

Tips for novice applicants


We would like to give some advice to novice programmers for mobile devices who want to choose the companies in which they would like to work:
  1. Have 2-3 ready applications in the App Store or Android Market. The finished products in the portfolio will allow the employer to assess your qualifications.
  2. Participate in programming contests and developer competitions (ACM, i-Free Innovations, HTC Android Developers Contest, iAppContest, HackDay IT, etc.). This will determine you as an enterprising, ambitious and goal-oriented person.
  3. Participate in the development of commercial applications.
  4. Have a high GPA in school.
