The other day it became known that in China, through the efforts of Microsoft, its partners, and local law enforcement agencies, a series of raids were carried out, which resulted in the discovery and arrest of a large criminal group that replicated and distributed pirated software.
According to some online sources, pirated copies of the Windows XP, Windows Server and Windows Vista operating systems, as well as Office 2003 and Office 2007 office suites worth about $ 2 billion, were found in the arrested warehouses. All software has been translated into at least eight languages: Croatian, Danish, English, German, Italian, Korean, Simplified Chinese and Spanish. The examination established that the products of this largest pirate syndicate in the world over the last six years were sent for sale to 27 countries.
According to experts, piracy annually provides the legal software industry with losses amounting to about 40 billion dollars. Microsoft, in particular, claims that if global piracy activity could be reduced by at least 10%, over the past four years, software companies would be able to create more than two million jobs.
