If a habrayuzer is ITshnik in a health facility (clinic, hospital) with software licensing problems, and the head doctor does not want to hear about the millions of software costs, except for dismissal and "clogging" you have a way out. Even medical databases on MS Visual FoxPro will work on GNU / Linux, software licensing costs will be reduced by an order of magnitude by the following method:
MS Office "everywhere" - not needed
Unbelievable, but it is a fact. The need to output 1 report from the database in a proprietary format (doc / xls) occurs at the doctor no more than 2 times a year, but why keep the last MS Office at work for at least 7K all this time? For 50 jobs, the licensing of a proprietary office suite will draw 350 rubles.
Tests of the free office began with OpenOffice 3.2.1 on windows and revealed a remarkable fact: everyone completely dissatisfied with the “new office” did not work with any document or spreadsheet for more than 15 minutes a day, and all fully satisfied with the office suite worked with documents no less 3 hours a day. After eliminating some of the pitfalls, OO.org was quietly installed on all LPU machines and MS Office was also quietly removed from almost all machines. Of the 50 jobs, 6 remain, where MS Office has been saved so far - the statistics department, which has to work actively with uploads from the database in closed formats and exchange documents of closed formats with external recipients, whose specialists now make rare uploads from the base for doctors.

MS Windows "everywhere" - not needed
Actually, Windows at the doctor’s workplace is not needed. It is not safe, what you can buy now - demanding on resources, the cost of licensing an operating system for an “average” clinic for 50 jobs will be more than 300Krub. But most importantly - why can it be needed everywhere? Even MS Office 2010 can be installed under WINE, additional services are no worse than closing free Linux applications (browser, jabber-client, VNC-client, PDF viewer, etc), if not for the medical database on VFP - workflow and browsing by internal resources, doctors can do without Windows

/ me experimented with different distributions and different software sets for a year, but stopped at Fedora 14, which is centrally updated from the local repository of the closed “corporate network”. High stability compared to other “user-friendly” distributions, Russification of interfaces, undemanding of resources, support for a wide range of hardware, a small and radically free main repository.
The last step to the doctor’s workplace,
almost without Microsoft, was just the launch of the file-server database on VFP6.

ImageShack.usThis was done not only from the virtual machine, but from under WINE according to the following recipe:
1. Copy the database to ~ / .wine / disk_c /
2. Mount the network drive
su -c 'mount -t cifs -o defaults, uid = 0, gid = 512, dir_mode = 0775, file_mode = 0666, user = user, password = password // server / folder ~ / folder'
3. In the WINE settings, specify a network drive along the path ~ / folder
4. Assemble and install fonts for this recipe
corefonts.sourceforge.net Missing packages during installation - download,
chkfontpath - as a separate package for localinstall-a
5. Open the “wine cmd” terminal, go to the c: \ clinic folder and register the libraries:
regsvr32 mscomctl.ocx
regsvr32 mscomct2.ocx
regsvr32 msmapi32.ocx
If necessary, attach to the database folder and register msvcrt.dll oleaut.ocx libraries
mscomctl32.ocx
6. Start the database, check the performance

Instead of 650K, we are licensed for 50-100K, and we forget about problems with licensing and MS products before the arrival of a single all-Russian medical base with multiplatform clients)
PS: I know that it would be necessary to add another couple of screenshots with a smaller resolution with the 14th Fedora. All will be
