Nintendo has sales problems with Nintendo 3DS

Nintendo is going through hard times - in just a couple of days, its shares have dropped by about 20%. The reason for such a sharp drop is the discrepancy between the real level of sales of the Nintendo 3DS handheld game console and the planned level. In order to somehow remedy the situation, Nintendo plans to reduce the prices of these devices. Generally speaking, this year cannot be called successful for most companies that are considered “cult” in the gaming world - someone hacks them, sales go bad, or something else. Nintendo this year has been attacked by hackers, plus sales of the new Nintendo 3DS device are far from consistent with the plan.

So, by the end of March next year it was planned to sell about 16 million Nintendo 3DS handheld game consoles. But after an active start of sales, when about three million devices were sold, buyers practically stopped buying these gaming devices, and from April to June of this year, the number of Nintendo 3DS sold was only 710 thousand devices. It is clear that this situation is almost disastrous for Nintendo. The company's management decided to reduce the price of the device by almost $ 100. So, in the United States themselves, the Nintendo 3DS will cost $ 170, at the current price of $ 250. In Japan, the cost of the Nintendo 3DS will be $ 150.

In light of such news, sales of the Nintendo 3DS are even more “slowing down”, as potential buyers expect prices to drop. But not only the prices of the devices themselves are falling, but also the value of the company's shares. So, the cost of Nintendo shares has already fallen by about 20%, and most likely, the decline will continue. Some experts believe that if Nintendo does not come up with something new, then the company’s troubles will continue for quite some time. Nintendo is now criticized for focusing mainly on the hardware of the Nintendo 3DS project, although attention had to be paid equally to the software part — for example, you could take care of the network component of the games for this portable console and the possibility of using multiplayer.

Probably now Nintendo should attend to the speedy introduction of the new generation game console, the Wii U, about which they have already written on Habré. And then, very few people are 100% sure that sales of this console will go well, because now the market for gaming consoles is declining, as the markets for social games and games for mobile devices are actively expanding.
