The world's first monitor with a DisplayPort interface
Samsung has announced the release of the world's first monitor with a new DisplayPort video interface. Perhaps in the near future, the DisplayPort (among other things, approved by the VESA - Video Electronics Standards Association) will replace the “outdated” DVI, LVDS and VGA interfaces. The new Samsung monitor has a screen size of 30 inches and works with a maximum WQXGA resolution of 2560 × 1600 pixels. The display uses an S-PVA matrix with excellent viewing angles (180 °, not less) and brightness of 300 cd / sq.m. The monitor is capable of displaying 16777000 shades of color, its contrast is 1000: 1, and the stated response time is 6 ms.
As for the new interface, a 30-inch monitor with such a high resolution is just perfect for demonstrating its capabilities. The fact is that the main advantage of DisplayPort is a very high data transfer rate (up to 10.8 Gbit / s). And this is two times higher than that of any interfaces currently used in consumer electronics. This speed is enough for a 2560 × 1600 picture to look great and clear.
The new Samsung will not be available soon (second quarter of 2008). The cost of the device is not yet named by the company, but something tells me that it will not be modest. ')
