Iceland presented a constitution written by crowdsourcing

Icelanders on Friday presented what could be an example for other governments: a constitution written by crowdsourcing.

A group of 25 citizens submitted a draft constitution to the Icelandic Parliament. 25 ordinary residents compiled a document on the Internet with the help of hundreds of volunteers. The Constitutional Council published the first draft in April on its website , and then allowed citizens to comment on it through the Facebook page . Board members are also active on Twitter, posting videos of themselves on YouTube and sharing images on Flickr.

Iceland’s first constitution was adopted in 1944, when the country gained independence from Denmark. The economic collapse of the country in 2008 led to calls to rewrite the constitution with a system of checks and balances to prevent a recurrence of the financial crisis. Now the new draft can be submitted to a referendum without consideration by Parliament.
