RAW files from 120+ cameras appeared in Windows 7 and Vista
According to the latest statistics, approximately 25% of all photographs in the world on digital SLR cameras are saved in RAW format, that is, in uncompressed form with the possibility of advanced reversible editing. This is the most convenient format that is used by all professionals and many advanced photographers. The good news for them is that RAW support from more than 120 camera models has now been introduced into the Windows Live Photo Gallery 2011 photo editor for Windows 7 and Windows Vista. Users of these operating systems need to download and install the Microsoft Camera Codec Pack , after which they can view RAW photos in both Photo Gallery and Windows Explorer.
In addition to viewing, in Photo Gallery it is possible to edit photos. At the same time, the RAW-original remains intact, and the editor works with a copy of the photo in JPEG or JPEG-XR format (HD Photo).
