Last summer, we launched the
Kosmosnimki - Fires fire monitoring service.
Since last year the entire central region was clouded with smoke and fires raged in densely populated areas, this sparked a strong demand for information due to the lack of open data sources. This year, information and early response to peat and forest fires in the vicinity of cities is a little better, so the media does not drive such an information wave, but forests are burning with might and main, especially in the
Far East and
Yakutia (see, for example, the
Greenpeace Forest Forum ) . Quote from the website of the Ministry of Emergency Situations: "The most difficult situation with fires persists in the republics of Sakha (Yakutia), Komi, Khabarovsk Territory and the Arkhangelsk Region (remote areas, adverse weather conditions)."
As for our service, we recently developed a new version. The main innovation: we added an analytic superstructure on top of the
basic algorithm for detecting “hot spots” , which makes it possible to combine individual points of fires into area fires and automatically determine their probable boundaries. For more information, see the
list of "FAQ" for fire services .

Service interface Data Integration: Fire Clusters, Weather, and Live Satellite Imagery
The site is updated with daily updated satellite images across the territory of the Russian Federation and part of the territories of neighboring countries that fall within the “visibility zone” of receiving stations - these are the same data for which fires are detected. As in the past year, the main tool for obtaining reliable and more detailed data on fires are the
additional operational images of higher resolution .
')
In addition, the new version of the fire service is already providing its
own API based on GeoMixer technology - i.e. the ability to integrate data or an interactive fire map into external sites and applications that has not yet been widely announced.
The fire service API is already used in a
special Yandex project , on the
Rambler-Weather service , on
the Emergencies Ministry website .
Further plans:
- system of notifications and user feedback
This will provide an opportunity to send email / sms notifications and filter and add fire data and related information.
We will be grateful for feedback on the use of the service!
