Nissan car will not start if the driver is drunk

New technologies, one way or another drunk driving warning, appear quite often. However, none of them has so far gained any noticeable popularity, much less become a standard. Nevertheless, automakers continue to work in this direction and from time to time demonstrate their achievements. In particular, the Japanese auto giant Nissan Motor reported about the next stage of development of this technology.

According to representatives of the corporation, Nissan engineers are about to begin testing a new integrated system that monitors the state of the driver and, if necessary, blocks the engine. The system works quite simply. Inside the car, sensors are installed that capture and analyze the driver's breath. If the owner of the car drank too much, the protective system blocks the ignition switch.

Testing of the system will be held in several areas of Japan with the participation of local authorities, but Nissan admits that these tests will not go beyond these tests. “The introduction of such a system as a mandatory function will require the involvement of legislative bodies, as well as significant state support,” said Nissan Motor spokeswoman Pauline Kee. “On the other hand, the system can only be installed as an option, but in this case it is necessary to clearly understand how this function will be demanded by the drivers themselves.” In addition, it is obvious that such protection in itself is not a panacea and can hardly solve the main problem without creating a dozen side effects.

Anyway, Nissan has high hopes for a developed protective system and hope that future cars will help to significantly reduce the number of accidents caused by drunk drivers.
