The fate of old electronics

A number of employees at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) created the BackTalk project, whose task is to study the fate of electronic devices that their owners considered obsolete and replaced them with new ones. In the course of the project, researchers added GPS mini-transmitters to gadgets and tracked where mobile phones, batteries, and printer cartridges fell.

As a result, it was concluded that during transportation electronic devices bring much more harm to the environment than their direct disposal on site.

The video shows the presentation of the project and the main results.
