Representatives of Mozilla today announced the beginning of work on the transformation of the Gecko engine, on the basis of which Mozilla Firefox browser is running, into an open operating system that is designed to work on mobile phones and tablet computers. The future operating system has even received the name - Boot to Gecko, and its code will be shared in real-time sharing. In any case, this is exactly what Andreas Gal, the representative of Mozilla, promised to do.
Developers from Mozilla note that this will be one of the differences between Boot to Gecko and the OS of the Corporation of Good; version will be released.

Andreas Gal also said that the development of Boot to Gecko will be conducted as openly as possible. Mike Shaver, Mozilla's vice president of development, said that Boot to Gecko will not use the Android SDK; instead, new Web APIs will be developed. This is how the new OS will support the usual mobile devices functions, including support for telephony, SMS messages, communication modules and other things.
In addition, one of the development priorities will be the protection of the new OS from external hazards, such as viruses and malware.
Despite the fact that the developers are trying to distance themselves from Android, some elements of this OS will be used in Boot to Gecko. So, this operating system will include some parts of the Android code, in particular, in the driver support modules and in the kernel. This is done so that the new OS can be run on Android devices.
