It seems that Google is going to come to grips with face recognition technology in the photo. In order to speed up this process, the corporation bought the company PittPatt, which is developing the relevant technologies. PittPatt is engaged not only in recognizing faces in photographs, but also in recognizing photographs in general, with subsequent marking (tagging) of recognized objects.
Now the further development of this technology guys from PittPatt will work together with developers from Google. The result will be implemented in various applications and services of the company, both ordinary and mobile. According to Google representatives, the technology will be integrated into photo and video applications.

So soon Picasa, Goggles, YouTube and Google+ will be able to acquire additional functionality. How all this will look when applied to Google services is unclear. But the fact that the technology will be used by the corporation, and in the near future, is unambiguous. It may well be that this technology, as applied to Google+, will be able to recognize and mark on the photo the faces of those people who are present in the photo and are registered in this social network.
In general, there are a lot of services for working with images on the Web, but so far there are practically no ones that are able to recognize various objects in photographs, marking these objects with corresponding tags. It remains to wait quite a bit, and we will see what Google can do with the technology obtained with the company PittPatt.
