Medvedev proposed to create an analogue of World of Warcraft based on Russian history

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev at a joint meeting of the presidiums of the presidential councils on culture and science and technology in Vladimir on July 22 proposed to create a multiplayer online game like World of Warcraft based on Russian history. Reports about it RIA News.

Medvedev noted that “tens, if not hundreds of millions of people” play in the “pseudo-historical” WoW, and not only children and young people, but also “adults”. The President stressed that in the game, in addition to “destructive principles,” there is “a background related to the development of human civilization”. “We could well try to do something similar, albeit not on a global scale, but on a national scale,” Medvedev concluded.

This presidential statement was made in the context of the discussion of the forthcoming large-scale celebration in 2012 of the 1150th anniversary of Russian statehood (counting on the semi-legendary vocation of the Vikings Rurik, Sineus and Truvor in 862) and popularization of historical knowledge in Russia.

The action of fantasy World of Warcraft takes place in the completely fictional universe of Azeroth. Worldwide, about 11.4 million people play WoW.
