On Monday, Amazon announced the launch of the
Kindle Textbook Rental service, which should help students save on textbooks. Now you can not buy expensive textbooks and manuals, and rent them at the Kindle Store, while saving up to 80 percent of the price of the textbook.
Tens of thousands of textbooks are available from renowned publishers (John Wiley & Sons, Elsevier, and Taylor & Francis). To rent a book, simply select the desired period (the minimum is 30 days, the maximum is 360 days) and pay for it. If necessary, the rental period can be extended. If in the process of reading the textbook, the student made any notes, notes, and underscores, then access to them will remain even after the end of the lease term.

A small example -
“A Handbook for Students in Journalism” costs $ 265, now it is sold for 250 in hard cover and in 90 for soft. You can buy an electronic version for Kindle for $ 66. If you rent this book, you will need to pay 30 dollars for 30 days.
As you know, textbooks are a rather expensive thing, and students often try to save money by purchasing used copies. Amazon has released the Kindle DX, choosing students as the target audience - after all, it is much more convenient to read textbooks on the big screen. But students still more often favored shabby paperbacks (as they were cheaper than the electronic versions of these books for the Kindle).
The new service is designed to increase the income from electronic publications and make them more accessible.
