Hewlett-Packard is working with Nvidia to create new high-performance servers containing up to eight graphics processors with increased speed, designed for high-performance computing.

With the help of Nvidia, HP has developed several unique configurations one of which is the largest supercomputer in the world, known as the “Greenest Production Supercomputer”. The latest HP server will use the new high-end Nvidia Tesla GPUs.
The combination of a GPU and a CPU is becoming more common as companies seek to gain computing power without increasing power consumption. For parallel processing, GPUs that contain hundreds of cores can provide speed without a corresponding jump in power consumption.
However, both software and workloads must be carefully optimized for a rather unique architecture. Compare the "Greenest Production Supercomputer" running on Nvidia chips and a Jaguar server that uses AMD x86 processors.

This is an incredible achievement in performance
1 , especially if you compare it with Jaguar, which is second on the TOP500 list of supercomputers
2 . Both have a similar peak in performance, but the new Nvidia Tsubame 2.0 consumes only 1/7 of its power.
Take this into account, and you will understand why GPUs have had such an impact on high performance computing.
The new server is in 14th place in the top server list, but its real value may be a sign of HP’s continued commitment to innovating on the server side and its connection to Nvidia.
Nvidia plans to release GPU chips that will use an ARM processor based on the famous Project Denver.
