Hello Habr!
For a long time studying the tablet market, I came to one interesting conclusion. I will not compare tablets with netbooks, I just want to talk about a possible way of development of this market in 2012, and it seems to me the only true one. I want to clarify right away, I consider the whole situation from the point of view of a regular user.
To begin with, I propose to understand what is the difference between tablets and netbooks. Personally, I believe that there is only one difference:
- tablet for the consumption of information;
- netbooks to create information;
As they say, all ingenious is simple, the difference in them comes out precisely in the absence of the possibility of creating this information on tablets, i.e. lack of mouse and keyboard. On the other hand, the tablet is more mobile, which allows the user to consume information, almost anytime, anywhere. Also, tablets are also a kind of portable set-top box.
And then I got the idea, but what if you make a device that combines the advantages of both tablets and netbooks. And as it turned out, I'm not the only one who thinks the same. A vivid example of the
Asus Eee Pad Transformer . Without hesitation, I became one of the lucky owners of this miracle, it would seem that this is what I mean. As to the tablet, I have no special complaints, but I have no complaints about the netbook, I still do not understand what the Doc-station gives me? In addition to facilitating the recruitment of tesk on the Internet, I did not find the benefits, apparently looking bad.
And suddenly enlightenment, and I realized what was missing for me when I set up a Doc station. The familiar interface is in netbooks, i.e. Windows (not necessarily Windows, is not the point, who likes what interface). I want when I install a Doc station so that I have the same functionality as in Windows. And here I am not the first, Microsoft also thinks so, in the video

Personally, it seems to me that if we combine the concepts of Asus Eee Pad Transformer and Microsoft Windows 8, then we will get the very ideal device that I describe. If you think the Windows 8 interface is Windows Phone 7 + Windows 7, with the ability to quickly switch between them. I think that the Asus Eee Pad Transformer is an attempt to combine two such dissimilar devices.
To summarize, I can say that we now have two concepts:
- Microsoft, to transfer the desktop operating system to the tablets, and to enable the ability to quickly switch between interests.
- Apple move the mobile operating system to tablets.
I specifically do not highlight the concept of Google and RIM, because They are completely identical to Apple. Whose concept is better, only time will tell.
