Google+ has the ability to hide the floor

The other day on the Internet met a screenshot of the settings window of your profile on Google+. It offered three options instead of two, not only M / F, but also the “other”. Honestly, I immediately thought that this was a joke of another photoshop, but as it turned out, Google+ now really gives you the opportunity to hide your gender. This was done on purpose, and the update was implemented on July 12, without any special announcements.

Why is this done? The developers claim that "the floor can be a rather subtle topic, especially on the Web," and for this update and rolled out. Among other things, the problem of gender has been affected by representatives of some brands, including Ford. Representatives of brands could not decide what they choose as the sex of their company, and asked to enter another item.

In general, quite an interesting decision, but maybe someone will be happy. But, as it were, all this tolerance (and the matter, probably, in it) did not end in tears. Just yesterday, I saw another screenshot of a translator with the translation of the English phrase about a cat that gave birth to kittens. Something was like "cat gave birth to 3 kittens: wite, white and black". It turned out "the cat gave birth to three kittens: white, white and African American." In general, something like this.

But of course, the user must have the right to hide his own gender, since it is possible to hide the date of his birth or where his place of residence is. Why not?
