DisplayPort HDMI cables may be removed from sale due to license violation

HDMI LLC, which oversees the HDMI specifications and compliance with the relevant licenses, has officially confirmed that some Mini DisplayPort-HDMI adapters that are on sale are illegal and may be withdrawn .

The essence of the claims is that each HDMI cable under a license should only have HDMI connectors on both sides. If on the one hand there are no such connectors, or there are some other connectors, then the device does not meet the specifications.

Belkin's Apple mini-DisplayPort-HDMI cables, which are sold on the Apple website, seem to include potential license violators. Similar cables are manufactured by Dell and other vendors. However, Belkin rejects accusations against itself on the grounds that the devices mentioned are not cables, but are devices with an internal controller, so the Mini DisplayPort is in this case legally a compatible device.

Apparently, HDMI LLC is not so much eager to withdraw "inappropriate" cables from the market, as it wants to receive additional licensing fees. However, it can go as far as recall.
