Hand Gesture Recognizer

A few days ago I wrote about a device capable of recognizing seven simple gestures for controlling household appliances and, in particular, television. A group of comrades from the Technology Institute of the North American State of Georgia went even further. They made a prototype of a device recognizing and interpreting gestures in the form of (who would have thought?) Wristwatch.

Gesture Watch (as the developers of Jungsoo Kim, Jiasheng He, Kent Lyons and Thad Starner called their brainchild) uses several infrared sensors that track movements in the immediate vicinity of the gadget. Then the gestures are interpreted by a special software. What gestures, what kind of software and how it all really works is not yet known. But the developers believe that their “watch” (due to the presence of a Bluetooth wireless connection module in them) could be used to control, for example, an MP3 player. You walk down the street, you wave your hands on you: stop, rewind, and increase the volume.

I'm not sure that commercial use of Gesture Watch is possible and certainly not sure that developers will be able to interest manufacturers with their gadget, but the idea itself is quite interesting. It is necessary only to "modify the file."
