Stumbling upon an article on the extension HabraFav remembered the extension that he had made for himself, and thought that it was worth sharing information about him.
The prehistory is quite simple. In connection with the long-awaited transfer of the provider of my tariff to the “without download speed limit” mode, it became necessary to periodically check this download speed. There is such a well-known resource like Speedtest.net , which I used for these purposes. Naturally, I tried to find an extension in the Chrome Web Store, built on a lightweight version of the script - Speedtest mini - but, to my own surprise, nothing good could be found. The implementation is simple, but I don’t know why.

I will repeat what is indicated in the description of the extension: I am not a programmer, I just implemented for myself a convenient, in my opinion, thing. According to this proposal, requests, requirements for modification, refinement, alteration of the extension to address me is useless. The topic is more likely to show what can be done like this and get a profit, with the hope that someone will do something better, more convenient, more functional.
- Known issue. Since the script is hosted on my VPS by the American hostgator hosting (without a link, in order not to be accused of “post paid for in general”) - the speed measurement does not go to the geographically closest server, but to the US, so the measurements may differ from the web results. version of the script.
- An alternative extension that appeared in the Chrome Web Store on July 9, 11 (hopefully influenced by the topic): chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/eljhbgnhgooccebmdhp , the web version of Speedtest.net, ping the nearest server. The author is not me.
