HTC bought S3 Graphics for $ 300 million

Taiwanese company VIA Technologies announced that it has sold all its shares to S3 Graphics, specializing in the production of GPUs used in personal computers, game consoles and mobile devices.

The buyer is a manufacturer of HTC smartphones, the amount of the transaction is $ 300 million.

HTC will own an experienced S3 Graphics development team, quite valuable intellectual property and know-how to create energy-efficient graphics and video solutions.

It is noteworthy that a large shareholder and VIA Technologies chairman Cher Wang manages a private investment company WTI. Also, Cher is the co-founder and chairman of the board of directors of HTC, and her husband, Wen Chi Chen, CEO of VIA Technologies.

VIA will receive $ 147 million, while WTI will receive $ 153 million

The deal has already received approval from VIA, WTI and HTC boards of directors. It is expected that the final processing of the purchase of S3 Graphics will be completed towards the end of this year.
