Report: Contest of gadgets in Ukraine from Microsoft, developer experience

This summer, the Microsoft office in Ukraine will hold a competition among gadget developers for Live.com and Vista Sidebar. The beginning of the development was announced on June 16, gadgets were accepted until July 16, after which the voting of the users themselves began on the website GadgetCompetition.com.ua . The voting itself will continue until August 6, after which the winners will be announced. The main prize of the competition is the paid participation in the TechEd 2007 developer conference in Barcelona. Among the participants of the vote also play prizes.
Microsoft is planning a similar competition in 15 countries. In addition to Ukraine, in summer the competition is held in Switzerland, Austria and Norway, in all other countries, including Russia, the competition will be this fall (except for Russia, Belgium, Croatia, Egypt, Greece, Hungary, Poland, Portugal, Romania, the Netherlands, Great Britain). Gadgets that were developed before the announcement of the competition can also take part in the competition.
67 gadgets were presented at the Ukrainian competition, most of them for the Vista Saidebar.
If you compare Vista gadgets with web gadgets, then the number of downloads of the first ones was much higher, I think this is because Vista users are more interested in Western users, so this difference is likely to have little effect on the voting results. According to the Microsoft representative office, only the voices of users will be taken into account, in whose Live ID accounts the country Ukraine is indicated. As for the voting functionality, I have heard many complaints that it is very incomprehensible and not convenient, this is a whole puzzle :)
Personally, I submitted a couple of web gadgets to the contest (for Live.com). Since I previously had experience in developing gadgets for IGoogle and Netvibes , I would say that the API from Microsoft looks somehow less convenient for the developer, although the development in Visual Studio .Net 2005, for me personally, is more familiar. He tried to develop his gadget so that it worked not only in Live.com, but also in IGoogle and Netvibes, it can even be embedded in any HTML page.
There were also some problems with the work of the gadget in browsers other than Interent Explorer, in particular, the height of the gadget does not work well (or rather, it is completely absent in Firefox and Opera), I met a developer maxim from Microsoft on the forums, which is better than not supporting Firefox at all ... Kakto sounds strange, because in IGoogle and Netvibes similar problems were not observed.
