In general, not bad news: now spam is sent much less than a year ago. In order to get a visual representation of what has been said, the corresponding graph is presented below. Interestingly, in July 2010, the number of spam messages was 225 billion, in June 2011 the corresponding figure was “only” 40 billion.
What is the reason for such a significant reduction in the work of spammers? Experts believe that this is the destruction or at least partial disabling of Rustock botnets. Only this botnet was responsible for 40% of global spam, so to speak. In general, it was good news.

Now the news is bad. As previously
reported , the Alureon botnet, built on the basis of a rootkit with an interesting abbreviation TDL-4, has now been commissioned. This rootkit is “smart” enough to remove other malware from the victim’s computer and not to show its own activities in the future. It is difficult to remove this rootkit from the user's computer, even if it is found.
Now spam can rush with a new force, since the new botnet is unlikely to be used to send greeting messages to single people. But for now, you can be happy with the reduced amount of spam in our mailboxes (maybe someone does not have spam at all). Hopefully, network security experts will be able to find ways to deal with the new scourge.
