Not so long ago, I switched to a Mac, and the old PC settled under the TV as a media center / file server. All anything, but the tower next to the telly does not please the eyes, and it buzzes a lot. Besides pisyuk for such work was too fancy. I just wanted to put together a simpler computer, but more quietly in a body prettier, but very suddenly (impressed by the article about the
Steampunk fashion model ) I came across a photo of my childhood media center:

Radiol "Vega-300". Photo from
Valery KharchenkoRadiola was found in a day. True, not Vega-300, but Vega-RE 301C, but they are almost the same. Dust in the school where I studied. I begged her, and beaming with happiness, went to see what could be done with her.

It was not difficult to disassemble it (not that at the age of 7, when I disassembled mine). Here I was going to place the iron:

In principle, with some modifications, full-sized components will fit here, but if you don’t want any extra problems, it’s easier to install low-profile expansion cards and find a smaller power supply.
Initially, I didn’t want to do just a system engineer - I wanted a full-fledged computer with a monitor, keyboard, etc. I wanted to install a small monitor under the radio cover, but it turned out that finding a suitable monitor was too difficult. 15 "models, perfectly fit in width, but too high. I also wanted to build a monitor because lately we started gathering with friends at someone’s apartment with our computers and cutting into counters (they remembered their youth :-)) and I needed some portability.
I have, practically, accepted the fact that the computer will be left without a monitor, but then I caught the eye of a parent laptop. Samsung R40 rose like a native:

So I decided not to do a computer, but a sort of docking station for the laptop. For me, this is a lot of advantages, and I still do not see any significant shortcomings (except for the financial issue). In the radio are located: equipment for SATA HDD, external sidyuk, external TV tuner, router, speakers (sub, apparently, will live separately), surge protector, laptop charging and USB hub. On the “second floor” the laptop itself will live, periodically leaving its habitat.
Now I'm looking for a suitable iron and think through all sorts of stuff. Maybe someone can help me with advice?
To be continued…
UPD: The docking station will be connected to the TV and will act as a media center / file server. It requires the ability to play video, music, photos, TV reception, radio, the launch of some toys (I don’t play games especially, but you can play the Tandiki dendi). Occasionally, the laptop will be removed from the dock for work, drunk with counter. Nout, practically, will not be used to work inside the dock. Those. You can stupidly put a laptop under the TV, insert an external tuner and screw into it, and the same thing will happen, but it looks not so cool.
