The winners of the fifth annual free photo contest are announced.

The fifth annual competition “Image of the Year” is an event during which among the images that have received the status of chosen for the past year, the Image of the Year is determined among the participants of all Wikimedia projects during voting.

As is clear from the title, once the contest is held on Wikimedia Commons, it is chosen from photos available under free licenses and as public domain.

Consider this competition as part of a large “free - doesn’t mean low quality campaign”. The competition shows that it is not necessary to pay for high-quality photos, many high-quality photos are available under free licenses.
