Device to control household appliances with gestures

Australian scientists have created a special device that allows you to control your TV with simple gestures. Can it be possible to switch channels now simply by twisting the “blue screen” figure?

The device is a box with a controller and a built-in camera that can recognize seven simple gestures. Recognized gestures are transmitted to the control panel, which, in fact, switches the channels, increases the volume of the sound, turns on and off the equipment, etc. According to the developers, Dr. Prashan Premarante and Kuang Ngue, anyone can learn the seven simplest gestures and learn how to operate their home equipment with their help in just five minutes. It is not clear, however, how the device will behave (which should be placed in a prominent place in the room - to improve visibility) in the case when small children, domestic animals, or not too gesticulating individuals waving their limbs and grimacing en masse. This question is still open. In the meantime, the development team set about creating a commercial version of the device for televisions and adapting it for use with game consoles.
