The authority of antiviruses and their role in the life of a developer

The other day, having logged on to one of the blogs that I esteemed torrentfreak.com , I discovered that Kaspersky is blocking it. It is clear that the triggering was false, but this incident stirred up a lot of memories about how antiviruses intentionally or accidentally cast a shadow on completely innocent programs and sites.

I think many software developers and site creators faced the problem of a false definition by antivirus, sometimes defending their right to be “white” is simple, but sometimes you run into a rigid bureaucratic wall of an antivirus company. It has been arguing for hours, days and weeks that you are not a deer, but at this time to spend money, lose reputation and nerve cells. If your company is not a global giant and there are no other channels of influence than standard ones, then you can go crazy with the obstinacy of virus analysts and the impenetrability of the support service.

Everyone understands that antiviruses initially pursue a good purpose: to protect the user from malicious programs, from theft of his personal data, from fraud, but aren't they too powerful? They are fully committed to fighting viruses, but they have not completely debugged the channel of interaction with honest programs and websites.

It is easy to remember a lot of false positives that led to serious consequences: McAfee blocked Windows , Kaspersky blocked the BBC website and this is just a couple that came to my mind.

We should not forget that users are very susceptible to antivirus messages and antivirus has much more authority on the user than any new, not very well-known program. The banal message that the program is possibly dangerous or undesirable may immediately turn the user away from it, since many do not read the message at all, but only see a red sign with the “Forbid” button. A low average level of computer literacy and increased confidence in antivirus programs can create a miracle with your product, only a miracle will not be very good.

Why am I writing this topic? This is just a cry from the heart, maybe someone can give good advice on interaction with anti-virus companies, and maybe companies themselves will offer some kind of mechanism.
