Samsung launches serial solar-powered netbook

In general, manufacturers of solar batteries have been trying to “tie” to their products for quite some time. Someone for mobile phones, some for laptop bags, and some for laptops themselves. But they were isolated attempts, and now the serial netbook NC215S, released by Samsung, should be on sale. On most sites where this device is described, it is positioned like a laptop, but it is still a netbook.

The device configuration is typical for a netbook, perhaps even weaker than most new netbook models. Thus, the NC215S is equipped with a Intel Atom N570 processor with a frequency of 1.66 GHz, 1 GB of RAM, a display with a diagonal of 10.1 inches and a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels.

As you can see, nothing outstanding. Everything would have been usual, if not for one “but” - the solar battery on the lid of the device. According to the developers, two hours in the sun is enough to provide an extra hour of netbook work. In principle, not bad. True, under direct sunlight, and even in such a hot summer, laptops and netbooks seem to be impossible to be.

But perhaps the NC215S is “sun-proof” and will normally tolerate the summer heat. By the way, a full battery charge is able to ensure the operation of the device for 14 hours. Pretty good - I personally would not have refused this netbook. 14 hours with the ability to "feed" energy from the Sun - very interesting. Of course, the netbook may seem to someone not very practical, but the device will find its segment of the buyer.

NC215S will be available first in the US, from July 3, and then in other countries. The cost is $ 399.
