Wikimedia Foundation updates the technical base, distributing servers for free

A good example for other companies and public organizations is the campaign conducted by the Wikimedia Foundation, the organization responsible for supporting the work of Wikipedia. The guys from the Wikimedia Foundation decided to upgrade the technical base, and completely replace the outdated equipment with new ones. But instead of selling used server, they decided to just distribute. A fair decision, especially if you consider that Wikipedia exists on donations.

The configuration of the servers, in principle, is not bad: dual-core processors with a frequency of 2.5 GHz, from 3 to 32 GB of RAM, and the amount of hard disk memory from 80 to 320 GB. These servers are already three years old, and they were really decided to distribute them.

Of course, there are certain criteria for the "recipient". First, the server can be obtained either by a registered public organization or by an individual performing any work for Wikipedia. And secondly, you must be in the US to get a server. This, of course, excludes most of the habrovchan from the list of possible recipients of servers, but perhaps someone fits the criteria.

In the request for a server, you must specify a brief plan for the use of this technical assistance, so it is better to think through all this in advance. The servers will be delivered in the US, and the guys from the Wikimedia Foundation have promised to ensure that the equipment was delivered intact.
