Interview Mark Shuttleworth: in Ubuntu, the default browser will be Google Chrome
About a year ago on Habré there was a topic with the same subject in which this news was discussed as a kind of rumor. However, last week, the head of Canonical himself, Mark Shuttleworth, in an interview with the Network World Network Internet publication made a curious statement regarding aspects of the possible future of his flagship product.
In general, characterizing the interview, we can say that it is imbued with a positive attitude towards such Google products as the Chrome browser and the Chrome OS operating system. Praising Google for creating a cross-platform product, Shuttleworth observes that "... working with Chrome on Linux might be better than working with Chrome on other systems," implying Windows and Mac. Also, the head of Canonical is seriously thinking about the possibility of changing the default browser in Ubuntu from the current FireFox to Chrome. In October, “Oneiric Ocelot” will not be sure about this yet, and since the next version 12.04 should be an LTS version (long-time support) of the system, you probably should not expect a change in it. The most likely candidate for the emergence of Chrome as the default browser is the version of Ubuntu, which is due out in October 2012.
