There are three main types of GPS devices:
GPS-navigators - show you where you are or where to go (on the map or just an arrow).
GPS trackers - which record your route and report it to Where To (through GSM).
GPS loggers - simply record the route for further processing.
I needed exactly the logger - to record the route, if necessary - to tie the coordinates to the photos. Of course, it was possible to put the corresponding program on the phone, but it does not last long from the battery.
I didn’t choose much, I just took what I had turned up - it turned out to be
Mobidick i-gotU MA-GPS2 Traveler Route Recorder (aka i-gotU GT-200)

How to use
Go out, turn on, put in your pocket and move to the right point. Logger is in your pocket and records the coordinates with a given frequency. The default is 10 seconds, but can be changed. The greater the speed of movement, the less the interval should be set.
At the end of the walk, connect the device to the computer and download the recorded track from there.
Software
Included is the
trip program, which is a client of the
site of the same name. It serves for downloading tracks, overlaying them on Google maps, uploading them to your website, snapping coordinates to photos (by shooting time) and for setting up a logger (indicating the coordinate recording interval).
As a result, on the site you can see something like this:
www.a-trip.com/tracks/view/76737
Alternative software
For those who don’t like standard software, they’ve got used to another one or it doesn’t run under your OS, there is an alternative software called
igotu2gpx , it exists in versions for windows, linux and macos.
May :
export tracks to gpx
clean memory logger
display logger settings
do a logger memory dump
GUi-version still displays routes on the map (it seems to load it with openstreetmap)
Can not
Change settings. For now, you need to use native software.
Working with COM ports above 8. Less than 3, it seems, too. I tried to hang on COM2 - it did not work, I had to release ports in the interval 3-8.
Virtues
Inexpensive
There is support (drivers and software without problems got on Windows 7 x64, there is software for macos and other Linux (third-party))
It is a decent battery, three days for 10 hours with shutdown for the night, it is enough for me (the interval between recordings is 15 seconds).
Small in size
disadvantages
Non-standard connector for computer connection
Native software loves to “optimize” routes and throw out some points.
It works well in motion, but when it stays in place for a long time, it starts to churn and jump around your real location.
Very large and sensitive disconnect button.
In order to avoid accidental outages, we had to do an “upgrade”:
Once it was a tape measure ...
Alternatives
In Chinese online stores you can buy GPS loggers at prices ranging from $ 30 to $ 80, some even have good reviews. I could have ordered something from there, but time was running out. Who does not draw in - I advise you to look for options there, maybe you will find something more ergonomic - with mini / microUSB and not such a big button.
