Not long ago there was a lot of news on the Web about new achievements of Facebook in terms of increasing the number of users. There is nothing surprising - in fact it was Facebook who first registered 500 million users in 2010. Then, in a few weeks, the number of users has already exceeded 700 million people. Mark Zuckerberg spoke of a billion. However, a billion can still remain an impossible dream, an unattainable goal. The fact is that the growth dynamics of the number of users of this social network has recently shown growth, but not as significant as before.
So, if we take the “average temperature in the hospital”, then in May 11.8 million people registered on Facebook, in April - 13.9. Last year, the average growth in the number of users per month was 20 million. In principle, there is a difference, but not very significant. However, if you take the growth dynamics of users in different countries, you can see an interesting picture.

For example, in May, Facebook received 1 million users from countries such as Mexico, India, Brazil, Indonesia, and the Philippines. However, in the same month, social network No. 1 lost about 6 million users in the United States and 1.5 million users in Canada. As we can see, in those countries where Facebook received an initial increase in users, there is now an outflow of previously active members of the Facebook society. Experts still do not explain the reason for such a significant loss of the user base in the United States and Canada.
But now assumptions are being made that Facebook has reached the peak of its development, and in the future there will be a slowdown in the increase in the number of users. It may well be that now the main task of Zuckerberg will not be building up the user base, but keeping the old users. In any case, a billion users of Facebook is starting to seem like a less-than-achievable goal.
