At the Supernova 2007 conference, the famous network thinker, Professor Clay Shirky,
delivered another provocative speech. He announced a very interesting and, it seems, just thesis that love is an obligatory precursor of the commercial success of technology.
As an example, Clay Shirky speaks about the Perl language (see video from 4 minutes and 20 seconds), which enjoys the unconditional love of millions of developers around the world. And, more importantly, all these people
love each other in connection with their common technological passion. They are ready to actively communicate and help each other, even share the code. Caring users about each other is the most accurate sign of technology’s commercial success.
Although Shirky talks about Perl and Linux, the law he formulated can be considered universal. It's about any technology.
Modern technologies provide many tools for the aggregation of human attention, emotions and feelings. News groups, wiki, social networks, open source projects - they all aggregate human love, turning it into a building material of a new generation.
