Starting in June, Mozilla will hold monthly contests to showcase the latest web technologies. Participants from different countries can send their demo works that show the possibilities of open and free technologies in modern browsers.
Mozilla Dev Derby runs every month and concerns one specific technology. At the end of each month, the jury will select winners who will be awarded with prizes such as Android phones, excellent laptop bags and exclusive MDN (Mozilla Developer Network) t-shirts. In addition, your name will be published on the site along with a short interview.

Many companies spend a lot of time and effort creating demonstrative pages to promote their browser, development environment or platform. This, of course, is great, but the guys from Mozilla think that it would be much better from an educational point of view to focus on the same technology and create small, more focused and better documented demo. There is no better way to learn something than to work directly with it, and that is why we are asked to show that we can.
Dev Derby rules are simple:
- The demo should work in the current version of Firefox, Firefox Beta or Firefox Aurora, without additional plug-ins.
- You must attach all source code, including binary components.
- The job description should be clear and accurate.
- The demo should be your own work and should not include the intellectual property of anyone else.
- Your work title must not include Mozilla trademarks.
- Work should be based on open web technologies such as HTML, CSS, and standard JavaScript APIs.
- Your work title must not include Mozilla trademarks.
- The use of open libraries and modules is allowed, but not paid.
The first contest is CSS3 animation: use CSS to animate the content of the page and create screensavers, just like in a movie (remember
AT-AT walker demo?) And show how designers can animate without the help of plug-ins or scripting languages.
So, ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the
Dev Dervy website.
