Soon, many new root domains (TLDs) will appear on the Internet. In addition to traditional TLDs in Latin, it is expected that there will be many applications for domains in national languages ββ(IDN).
ICANN understands that doing the necessary work for each separate group of IDN future languages ββis not an easy task, therefore in April 2011, it was announced that working groups of language groups (Cyrillic, Arabic, Greek, Chinese, Indian and Latin) would be deal with issues related to the delegation of new IDN TLDs. The experts of the working groups will work on solutions that ensure the delegation of multilingual domains that meet the interests of the world community. The working groups include experts in local language and culture, DNS security, stability, and domain name registration processes.
The working group on Cyrillic domains, as experts included employees of the Center for Internet Names of Ukraine (
Ukrnames ).
The choice of Ukrnames employees as experts of the working groups is not accidental. Ukrnames is an ICANN-accredited domain registrar, has extensive experience working with Cyrillic domains, in addition, Ukrnames constantly takes an active part in the activities of various ICANN bodies.
