Russian voice TED

It is always nice when video from some event is translated into Russian. It is doubly pleasant when they make high-quality voice acting. But if high technologies are involved in this, then it is generally wonderful.

Recently, the Speech Technology Center , a company that is one of the few that has its own speech synthesis and speech recognition systems, began voicing the TED conference materials into Russian using the Russian speech synthesis technology. Robot-posted materials are posted on the VoiceFabric blog.

The synthesized audio track is created by subtitles (.srt) in automatic mode and is also automatically glued to the original video. A comfortable viewing sensation, rarely seen when listening to synthesized voices, is achieved in this case by combining the original sound and the overlaid robotic voice. Thus, emotional intonation, which is what any robots are so weak in the examples given, does not hurt the ears.
