Overview of Twitter clients for iPhone

There are a lot of Twitter clients now. How to choose?

For this, I chose the two most important indicators, in my opinion:

1) Speed. It should work as fast as possible even on my old 3G. Although the performance of new devices does not hurt.
2) Convenience. Minimum action to create a new tweet, replay, update the tape, view sheets. Substitution of hashtags and usernames.
')
The purpose of the review is to choose the fastest and most convenient client for the standard algorithm: run → read the tape or sheet (s), or else (fot / select photo) → write.

Twitter for iPhone (official client)

Price: free.
Latest version: 3.3.5
Loading: 8-10 (!) Seconds

pros

- Nice classic interface without whistles.
- Update tape pull down / release.
- Gestures in the tape. Swipe tweet left or right opens the options: replay, retweet, fave, profile, sharing link, sharing tweet.
- Drafts.
- Tweets are sent in the background (i.e. you can read the tape while a couple of photos are loading).
- There are such important things as creating sheets, adding users to the sheets, viewing retweets.
- Download multiple attachments.
- When you select a photo, even before it is loaded, you already know how many characters the link will take, and the number of remaining characters will be indicated minus the length of the link.
- When viewing photos from tweets, as well as when they are filled, it shows a progress bar.
- Push Notifications.

Minuses

- Autoupdate tape at startup (if I want to start the client to just write a tweet, an extra request only slows down the work and spends my traffic)
- Auto-update after posting a tweet (both plus and minus at the same time - it would be better if it was in the form of settings)
- Slow switching from Timeline to Mentions and vice versa for the first time after each launch. Then a little faster.
- Interface and scroll brakes when the tape is updated.

Summary: A pleasant, but very slow client. Constantly something loads without demand.

Echofon pro

Price: $ 4.99 (there is a free version with a banner)
Latest version: 4.0.8
Loading: 2-3 seconds

pros

- Absolutely everything works very quickly. The most global plus.
- Visually, the interface is slightly less pleasant than that of Twitter (especially the new tweet dialogue and profile view), but extremely thoughtful: the tweet viewing window does not replace the buttons on the toolbar below, so you can quickly go to any desired section; hashtags and usernames are substituted quickly and do not close almost the entire screen;
- Update tape pull down / release.
- You can conveniently make a replay on several different tweets.
- Does not update the tape without demand. Thus saving my traffic and device resources.
- Synchronization with the desktop client (Mac).
- In the feed, all links are active, unlike Twitter.
- There are previews of pictures in the tape.
- Push Notifications.

Minuses

- No gestures.
- There are no drafts, although when the new tweet dialog is closed, its contents are saved.
- Can not upload multiple attachments.
- No background sending tweets.

Summary: The smartest customer of all. Always smooth scrolling, fast loading, instant response of all interface elements.
Everything is quite convenient. I can not say how with the speed of customers for, for example, iPhone 4, but for the iPhone 3G this client is the definitive leader in speed, and $ 5 is not a pity for it.

Osfoora

Price: $ 2.99
Latest version: 1.7.3.1
Loading: 5-6 seconds

pros

- It works quite quickly, but slower than Echofon.
- Update tape pull down / release.
- In general, a nice interface. Good home menu.
- Download multiple attachments. Including music.
- Drafts.
- For fans of #FF there is a button that automatically inserts several random accounts into a tweet.

Minuses

- No gestures.
- Not very smooth scrolling.
- There is no automatic substitution of usernames when writing a tweet.
- No viewing of tweet details.
- No push notifications.

Summary: A good combination of convenience and speed.

Tweetbot

Price: $ 1.99
Latest version: 1.1
Loading: 4-5 seconds

pros

- Not classic, but convenient and beautiful interface.
- Update tape pull down / release.
- When you tap on tweets, new windows do not open, but a convenient menu appears: replay, retweet, fave, etc .; double tap on tweet shows detailed information; triple there - reply.
- Swipe to the left shows a dialogue, swipe to the right - replays.
- Instead of the classic menu of sheets, the client offers to switch between the ribbon or sheets using the Timeline button at the top. It is very convenient.
- Able to upload multiple photos (and show how many characters left with reference to them).
- There are drafts.

Minuses

- It does not work very quickly, sometimes scrolling is not smooth.
- Loads everything subjectively slower.
- Auto-update after posting a tweet (both plus and minus at the same time - it would be better if it was in the form of settings)
- No push notifications.

Twitterrfic

Price: $ 4.99 (free version with banner, upgraded through in-app purchase)
Latest version: 4.1
Loading: 6-7 seconds

pros

- There is a translator.
- Highlight tweets and dialogues.

Minuses

- When writing a tweet and inserting a photo, it tries to send it to the server even before the tweet is written.
- The interface does not work smoothly, scrolling sometimes slows down.
- No tweet details view.
- Switching between ribbons, sheets, mentions only through the additional menu. Extra action, uncomfortable.
- No push notifications.

Tweetdeck

Price: free.
Latest version: 2.0.2
Loading: 8-10 seconds

pros

- Very convenient switching between ribbon, mentions, selected sheets - swipe to the right or left.
- Ability to read what others write to a specific user.
- Nice black theme.

Minuses

- Scroll shamelessly slows down. And the rest also works very slowly.
- When you select a photo for tweet, it immediately starts uploading it to the server, and not in the background and without the possibility of canceling the download.
- Few settings.
- No push notifications.

Results

For older iPhones 3G, I would recommend Echofon - it just works faster than anyone.
For 3Gs and 4, you can try Osfoora (but minus: there is no username substitution) or Tweetbot for fans of non-standard interfaces. The official client is suitable only for those who do not care that the application is constantly loading something.

Tweetdeck can be a good client if developers optimize and add settings.
About Twitterrfic, you can say the same thing.
