Apple closes MobileMe

In connection with the launch of a new cloud service iCloud , Apple closes the MobileMe service.

Under the cut a letter sent to all MobileMe subscribers.

We'd like Apple's upcoming cloud service. iCloud integrates seamlessly with your apps, so everything happens automatically. Available this fall, iCloud is free for iOS 5 and OS X Lion users.

What is a MobileMe member?

If you sign up for iCloud, you will be able to keep track of your MobileMe.

June 30, 2012, at no additional charge. After that date, MobileMe will no longer be available.

When iCloud becomes available this fall, we will provide more information. In the meantime, iCloud.

In this letter, Apple presents its new iCloud cloud service and talks about the conditions for switching to it:

• After switching to iCloud, mail, contacts, calendars and bookmarks will be saved;
• A subscription to MobileMe service will be automatically extended free of charge until June 30, 2012 to all users;
• More detailed instructions on migration to iCloud will be presented this fall.
