We connect the monitor to Thecus N5200 without soldering (lifehack)

In ancient times, the Thecus N5200 NAS money was bought for 36,000 rubles . He attracted the opportunity to combine nas and the router in one device. On board, there was a wan port and 4 lan ports + the ability to assemble a raid of 5 disks. The device itself was not well justified in terms of the nas function, it does not see the hard drives at 3 Tb, the slow speed of work with several streams (less than 10 MB / s). And it was decided to put ubuntu on it. It seems the process is not complicated, opening the case shows that inside a normal PC, the presence of two usb ports allows you to plug in a usb-cdrom and a keyboard. The main bad luck is that there is no video output, and how to get around this I will tell in this article.

Initially, it was apparently planned to withdraw vga output all the same, but that everyone did not put ubuntu to do it (perhaps on some models he is present). In the picture we see a soldered hole for vga.

Opening the back cover

Remove the case

We see a non-soldered vga connector, at first I thought to buy a vga output and unsolder it myself, but my hands still could not reach

We insert into the unplugged connector

Then you plug in the keyboard and sidir and get a regular computer, go into the BIOS, select the boot from usb-cdrom and set the ubuntu in the minimum configuration. You can upgrade the mini-ide flash drive from 128 to 512 MB, in general, this is not a problem to buy in Russia.

Two photos of Thecus guts for the curious.
