Full support for dom0 and domU in Xen will appear in Linux 3.0

A note appeared in the blog of the Open Source-project of the Xen virtualization , which expresses joy about the achievement of full support for dom0 and domU in Linux.

The last step needed for this was taken last week, when Linus Torvalds added xen-blkback to the mainstream Linux kernel development line. Thus, the next release, Linux 3.0, will include a change that will provide everything that is needed for Linux to function as a management operating system (“dom0” in Xen terminology) and as a guest (“domU”).

As reasonably noted in the blog post by Citrix, which absorbed Xen in 2007, “getting into the upstream is very important because it means that distributions no longer need to provide different kernels to ensure Xen support.”

The entire path to the emergence of full support for Xen in the Linux kernel took more than 4 years.
