AMD invested $ 7.5 million in Transmeta

AMD has invested $ 7.5 million in Transmeta, a manufacturer of processors, in return for a package of preferred shares in the company. Transmeta will spend the received money on the development of new technologies needed to create processors with reduced power consumption. Of course, all this will be done in the interests of AMD, is set to continue the "arms race" with Intel.

It should be noted that both companies are not experiencing the best of times, but Transmeta shares after the conclusion of the agreement rose 24 cents - to 94 cents.

Transmeta employs only 65 people, but Dirk Meyer, president and chief operating officer of the AMD microprocessor solutions division, said that Transmeta is an “innovation force in the industry.” He also recalled AMD64 technology, in the creation of which Transmeta took an active part.
